Some Cool Golf Goals and Milestones

My old insurance guy and one of my parents’ best friends, Dave Dunker, was telling me that he and his wife have golfed in I believe it was 31 states together, and it’s one of their goals to play in all of them. What an awesome goal!

I have been working on an article about John Krueger for Midwest Golfing Magazine recently, and John has played every single public course in the state of Wisconsin, and has only 9 private clubs and 82 nine-hole courses to finish off the state.

Milestones like these inspire me to create some of my own. I don’t know if I will ever be able to play every public course in the state – I honestly don’t have interest in playing a lot of them and have an 8-5 job Monday through Friday, but I would like to play in as many different states, and as many different types of courses as possible. So far, I have played in:

  1. Wisconsin
  2. Illinois
  3. Michigan
  4. Minnesota
  5. Iowa
  6. Ohio
  7. Florida
  8. South Carolina
  9. California
  10. Oregon
  11. Washington
  12. Idaho
I’ve got a ways to go, yes, but hopefully I’ve also got a lot of good years for golfing left in me.
Another great golf goal that I have read about is a blog I’ve kept up on, Top100Golf:
For years, the writer of this blog had only Augusta National left to play to complete the top 100 courses in the world. Following decades of trying everything in his arsenal to find a way on, he finally played it on a perfect Georgia day on May 1 of 2013. The author actually chronicled at one point the potential ways to get on, and each ways’ odds, which I thought it was an awesome article:
What kinds of goals [or milestones] do you have in mind for your golf career?

  1. If you're going to get spammed on your golf blog, I guess Matt Kuchar is a pretty good person to spam you. It's amazing he still finds time in his busy schedule to copy and paste about Scottsdale Golf Club!
