I’m what you might call a fair-weather golfer. I like it when the temperature is just right, the carts have GPS, good tunes are playing, and the refreshment cart swings by every two holes to check if I need anything – which, obviously, I do. So when I needed to get some premium golf shoes, I went straight to Paul Seifert for recommendations. His immediate answer: ECCO.

Conveniently, Paul also happened to know someone at ECCO who was kind enough to hook me up with a sample. Perks, right?

The timing was perfect as the WiscoGolfAddict Expeditionary Team had seven courses to play in five days up in the BOYNE Golf destination of Northern Michigan. I figured I’d go full-on luxury and rotate pairs – one for the morning rounds, another for the afternoon. Why not?

But before we get into that, let’s backtrack a little. ECCO’s story starts in 1963 when Birte and Karl Toosbuy decided regular jobs were overrated. Karl, a trained shoemaker, had this crazy dream of owning a shoe factory. So, naturally, they sold their home, quit their jobs, and moved to Bredebro, Denmark, just north of the German border.

It turns out that was a good call, because since then, ECCO has grown into a global powerhouse. They now have factories in six countries and churn out millions of high-quality shoes.

What really sets ECCO apart is that they control everything, from start to finish. They own and operate their own tanneries, which not only supply leather for ECCO shoes and accessories but also to some of the world’s most iconic luxury brands.

Nothing is left to chance in their production process.

ECCO has always been big on innovation and comfort. So much so that I used to own a pair of ECCO dress shoes back in the day, and I absolutely loved them. Fast forward to this trip, and my plan was set: use the ECCO golf shoes as my backup pair for the second half of each day.

Day one, I laced up the waterproof ECCO Biom Hybrid shoes, and let me tell you – game changer.

As my regular, sad golf shoes sat on the sidelines, I powered through the rounds in complete foot nirvana. Not once did I think about my feet or any discomfort. And when your feet are happy, golf becomes a whole lot more enjoyable.

Now, I’m not going to lie – ECCOs aren’t cheap. But in my humble opinion, they’re worth every penny.

There’s nothing worse than playing a beautiful course and only thinking about how much your feet hurt, or how wet they are, instead of admiring that 289-yard drive you just crushed past your buddies.

So, go ahead and tap into that secret slush fund. Get yourself a pair. You won’t regret it.
