A Look Back at 2024: A Golf Season Well Traveled
Happy New Year, everyone! I hope you all enjoyed 2024 as much as I did. Here are a few of my favorite memories from the season, and what we’re looking forward to in 2025.
Located conveniently between Milwaukee and Chicago, near the Wisconsin/Illinois border, Lake Geneva has become a Summer hot spot for Midwesterners that offers tons of golf, wonderful hotels and resorts, great dining and plenty to do downtown and on the lake.
The two main golf resorts in the area are Geneva National and Grand Geneva.
With three championship courses that were designed by three of the game’s great players (Arnold Palmer, Gary Player and Lee Trevino), Geneva National is a bit more sprawling of a property with more to do outside and more of a gated community setting.
Grand Geneva, on the other hand, is more of your typical resort hotel, and has two championship courses of its own: The Robert Bruce Harris design Brute and the Bob Cupp redesigned Highlands (formerly known as the Briar Patch, the course was originally designed by Pete Dye and Jack Nicklaus in 1968).
Other golf properties in the area include Hawk’s View, Abbey Springs and Lake Lawn Resort. While I have not played the last two, Abbey Springs is currently (Spring 2022) undergoing a significant renovation led by Lohmann Quitno and I’ve heard good things about the Majestic Oaks course at Lake Lawn. Hawk’s View’s Como Crossings championship course is a wonderful test of golf and should definitely be checked out when in the area.

Whether you’ve been a longtime fan or first-time visitor, the Trevino Course’s transformation, in addition to everything else the resort offers, will be reason enough to plan your next visit to this legendary Midwest golf property.
