I came across this article by Jim Owczarski on Blackwolf Run and Whistling Straits’ Facebook page today, and really enjoyed the read. I think you will, too:

A Major Anniversary: Kohler Properties Celebrate in 2013, by Jim Owczarski for OnMilwaukee.com

Which of the Kohler courses do you like best? I haven’t had the opportunity to play the Straits course yet, but absolutely love the other three. In order of favorite (and there are no losers on this list):

Whistling Straits, Straits

Blackwolf Run, River

Whistling Straits, Irish

Blackwolf Run, Meadow Valleys

Blackwolf Run, River Course Hole 9

Both properties tend to have some unbelievable deals toward the end of the season on their “lesser” courses (Irish and Meadow Valleys, which are only “lesser” because they have not held major championship events and are lower in price), including I believe it’s September or October tee times around $70, including cart.

If you have not had the chance to play the Irish yet, wow do I recommend it. It is rugged and absolutely beautiful.

I played the Straits course for the first time the end of April in the opening weekend tournament ($421 for 18 holes on the river course & cart, overnight at Inn on the Lake and 18 holes and caddy on the Straits course). Straits course was spectacular. I had a great caddy and was a wonderful day. In season rates are too high for me. The River course was nice, but I prefer the Bull over over either Blackwolf Run courses.

Kohler courses are all about corporate golf and corporate money. I sure wish Kohler would give Wisconsin residents a discounted rate for 1 round at each course per season.
