A long drive contest and the promise of a free Vessel Staff bag lured me to the Uneekor booth back at the 2023 PGA Show. I had no idea what to expect from the brand and what their product offering even entailed.

Ever since that day I have been anxiously waiting for an opportunity to test out their Eye Mini unit for myself. The brief demonstration and test that I was able to experience at the PGA Show left me blown away with the features, accuracy and portability the Eye Mini offered.

Targeted at both amateur and professional golfers, the Eye Mini combines cutting-edge technology with user-friendly features to deliver precise data and an immersive playing environment.

This review will delve into the various aspects of the Uneekor Eye Mini, exploring its design, features, performance, and overall value.

Design and Build Quality

The Eye Mini boasts a sleek and compact design, making it an excellent choice for those with limited space.

I found the overall design to emphasize portability and durability. Weighing in at at 7 lbs and standing about 16 inches tall the unit is easily transported to the range in the included carrying case. The rechargeable battery provides about 5 hours of continuous use and its integrated carry handle at the top makes it easy to maneuver. While I would not recommend “throwing it around,” it’s well-built and I had no qualms leaving it out when my kids were around. If that isn’t a true test of durability I don’t know what is!

Setup

Despite its advanced features, the Eye Mini was surprisingly easy to use. The setup process was straightforward, with digital instructions provided by Uneekor. I had the unit up and running in about 10 minutes.

I would recommend initially connecting via the included ethernet cable to complete any needed updates and configuration of the WiFi connection, and basic calibration can be completed following the instructions on the unit.

The Uneekor software is compatible with both Windows and iOS devices. I personally found an iPad to be the easiest system to use for basic range and practice play. The user interface of the software is intuitive, making it easy for anyone to navigate through the different modes and features without any hassle.

Software

Navigating the add-on software options and tiering for the Eye Mini can be the most daunting part. Included with the the Eye Mini is Uneekor’s proprietary View software. The View platform provides a virtual driving range, data analytics and video playback.

View Air is a slimmed down version designed to run on an iPad but limits some of the features including the ability to see some club path data. More details on the View Software can be read here.

If you are looking for more advanced features and course simulation you will have to invest in Uneekor’s Refine software.

An enhanced driving range, challenge mode and world class courses are what you will get with this investment. These subscriptions also allow you to connect to other simulator software such as the well known GS Pro (separate subscriptions and additional cost) for more course options.

Course Play

As part of my testing of the unit I tried some of the included courses including Bay Hill. As I sipped my Arnold Palmer I lived my dream of playing the track all while hibernating in my basement with two feet of snow above me.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from the course experience but was happy overall with the graphics, feedback and immersive content. If you do plan on playing courses frequently be sure to invest in a high-quality PC. I tried running the course simulations on a decent laptop but it could not keep up.

One of the standout features of the Eye Mini is its advanced sensor technology. It utilizes dual high-speed cameras that capture over 3000 frames per second, ensuring precise tracking of the ball and club. This high-speed imaging allows for accurate measurement of key metrics such as ball speed, club speed, launch angle, spin rate, and carry distance. These metrics are crucial for golfers looking to improve their game, as they provide detailed insights into their swing and ball flight. Back Spin	Measurement of reverse rotation of the golf ball relative to its trajectory (Backspin generates upward lift and stopping power upon landing).
Side Angle	Angle at which the ball starts its flight, relative to a straight target line (Horizontal launch angle).
Side Total*	Deviation left or right of the target while the ball is in the air.
Launch Angle	The initial vertical launch angle of the golf ball post-clubface impact (relative to the ground).
Angle of Descent*	The descent angle of the golf ball after reaching its peak trajectory.
Flight Time*	The total amount of time the golf ball is in the air.
Spin Axis*	The imaginary line around which a spinning object rotates. In the context of sports like golf or baseball, it specifically refers to the axis around which the ball is spinning. In golf, the spin axis affects the ball’s trajectory, determining whether it will curve to the left or right during flight.
Distance to Apex*	The distance covered by the ball in the air until it reaches the highest point of its trajectory.
Apex*	The peak height of the ball’s trajectory.
Ball Flight Type*	Description of the balls initial start direction and shot shape.
Carry Distance	Total distance the ball traveled in the air.
Run*	Distance the ball travels after making contact with the ground.
Total Distance*	Total distance the golf ball travels including the carry and run.

CLUB DATA
Club Speed	The speed of the club at impact.
Smash Factor	Quantifies the efficiency of impact between the club face and the golf ball. It is calculated by dividing the speed of the ball by the speed of the club head at impact. A higher smash factor indicates a more efficient transfer of energy from the club to the ball, typically resulting in greater distance and accuracy.
Attack Angle	The angle at which the clubhead approaches the ball during a golf swing. It is measured relative to the ground and indicates whether the clubhead is moving downward, level, or upward at impact. A positive attack angle means the clubhead is descending into the ball, while a negative angle indicates the clubhead is ascending or sweeping upwards.
Club Path	The in to out, or out to in movement of the club head’s geometric center at the center at the time of impact. Club Path is the direction (right or left) the club head is moving at impact and is measured relative to the target line.

Real-Time Feedback

Real-time feedback is another significant advantage of the Eye Mini. As soon as the ball is struck, the system provides instant data and visual feedback. This immediate response is a critical aspect when selecting a simulator for your personal use. There is nothing more frustrating than hitting a shot and having the system lag by 1-2 seconds.

Visual feedback is displayed on a connected screen, offering a clear and detailed view of the ball flight and critical data.

Accuracy

The dual-camera system captures every nuance of the swing and ball flight, providing data that is both reliable and consistent. Whether it’s the exact spin rate or the precise launch angle, I found the information provided by the Eye Mini to be spot-on.

To enhance the data the system utilizes small stickers on the toe of your clubs. These were easy to install and the unit came with plenty.

Portability

The Eye Mini is versatile enough to be used in various settings, from home setups to professional golf studios, but the ability to take the unit on the go is a major selling point.

The 5-hour battery life ensures you can complete multiple range sessions or an entire round of golf. I found it easiest to use an iPad at the range so I could easily see data and feedback.

Comparing my actual shot shapes to what was captured by the Eye Mini I found it to be right nearly every time. I did experience some issues with the unit not finding the ball and I would attribute that to bright lighting conditions.

Value For The Money

The Uneekor Eye Mini represents excellent value for the money, especially when considering the breadth of features and level of performance it offers.

When compared to other golf simulators in the market, the Eye Mini holds its own remarkably well. Competitors like SkyTrak and Foresight Sports GCQuad offer similar features but often at a higher price point.

The Eye Mini’s dual-camera system and real-time feedback are comparable to high-end models, making it a competitive option. Additionally, the seamless software integration and range of practice modes and simulations give it an edge in terms of usability and functionality.
