Twilight play is in my golf DNA. With a full-time day job to tend to, I have to get my rounds in whenever I can. More often than not, that means I’m shuttling off to the course on a weekday evening and playing until the sun goes down.

Being a twilight player sometimes makes me feel like a second-rate citizen in the golf world, though. I’ll arrive at the course around 5:00 to see crowds of happy golfers on the patio, celebrating at their 19th hole with full rounds under their belts after I floundered at the office all day.

In those late-day rounds, I also don’t get to experience freshly-cut morning grass, have to play around ball marks and divots made earlier in the day, and often have to cut rounds short as darkness descends. I’m still happy to be golfing, of course, but swooping in to scoop up the dregs of the tee sheet for a couple hours of harried play can be a bit of a humbling experience.

To make matters worse, twilight golfers constitute a decent share of the market, but don’t get their due in terms of apparel specifically designed for the experience.

When professional caddie Hank McGannon realized that both twilight and muni golfers were underserved in the apparel industry, it spurred him to start his own company in 2021, RealGolfers.

I’ve been a happier twilight golfer after trying out RealGolfers apparel

Hank is a man of many disciplines. In addition to full-time looping at Kiawah Island Golf Resort and running RealGolfers, he also writes in his free time. In fact, you may have seen his article on optimizing the caddie experience featured on WiscoGolfAddict earlier this year:

Familiar with his WiscoGolfAddict contributions, I was able to request and secure Hank as my caddie at The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island this spring. My course review dives into that experience in detail, and in addition to a stellar golf experience I got to know Hank quite well during the round and learn more about RealGolfers.

Why so Serious?

RealGolfers’ signature Jester Hat logo captures the soul of twilight golf as a reminder that golf is just for fun. Indeed, when I take the game seriously I tend to perform worse and have a suboptimal experience. Twilight golf is about relaxing, spending time with buddies and enjoying the end of a workday in style.

The Jester Hat logo captures this vibe perfectly, and the RealGolfers Jester polo is densely populated with miniature versions of these hats to provide a look that you’re ready to tackle the course with an easy-going, relaxed attitude. The Diamonds Blue polo, in particular, has the style I’ve been seeking for quite a while in my golf wardrobe, with a sleek Cobalt Blue colorway paired stylishly with a white placket and collar.

A Great Fit that’s No Joke

The Jester polo comes in thin, breathable material with an athletic feel. Breathability is especially important to me, as I enjoy walking the course but sweat a lot in the summer months. In a recent 80+ degree round of walking, I wrapped up on the last hole feeling surprisingly dry and refreshed thanks to the superb materials of this polo.

Walking in the summer heat has been no problem in the highly breathable Jester polo

With true-to-size fitting, I was able to select my normal medium size which fits snugly. It’s often frustrating when apparel wears larger or smaller than the stated size, so I definitely appreciate the fit of the Jester.

With its great material, fit and style, this polo has ascended to the “A List” in my collection and I find myself wearing it to the course every few rounds.

Closing Thoughts

At a price of $49.99, I think RealGolfers‘ polos are a fantastic deal, and with 10% of sales going to the First Tee of Charleston you can also feel like you’re making a difference with your purchase.

Hank certainly has some great things going with RealGolfers, and after meeting him in person it’s clear he has a passion for the game and wants to give back to the community. I’m glad I was able to meet Hank in my round at Kiawah and look forward to staying in touch to keep up with RealGolfers‘ future apparel releases.

If you’re a twilight or muni golfer, or if you’re just seeking a new look on the course, RealGolfers is definitely worth a shot.

Sounds like Hank has a great golf clothing line. Great some of his proceeds go to the First Tee! Does he have any women’s shirts or hats yet?
