Golf’s hottest apparel brand over the past five years, Holderness & Bourne (H&B) has earned its reputation as being the new standard for classic golf fashion, found in over 90% of the clubhouses of top 100 courses in the United States.
The company’s remarkable ascent within the golf industry reflects their commitment to classic designs, impeccable craftsmanship and functional performance.
Simply put, their apparel has become the modern go-to.
Holderness & Bourne’s pieces are not just stylish – they offer unmatched comfort and versatility and are the perfect brand to blend players’ apparel needs both on and off the course.
Holderness & Bourne’s Ascent
When I first reviewed Holderness and Bourne back in 2020 they were a company on the rise.
Their apparel, classic in style and beautifully engineered, was gaining traction across the golf industry as owners John Bourne and Alex Holderness were on the brink of something special.
Their ascent has only escalated since, and in my opinion H&B is now the standard for high-end golf clothing.
Perhaps what I like most about H&B apparel is that it’s made to last. I have polos and shorts from them that are going into their sixth season of wear and they have all held up beautifully. H&B’s classic style is so enduring, too, that they are as fashionable today as they were when I first got them.
My 2020 review of Holderness & Bourne:
Holderness & Bourne Golf Polos and Outerwear: The Game’s Best Apparel
My personal favorite golf clothing brand, Holderness & Bourne sells classically styled golf polos and outerwear that will never go out of fashion. Made with superior materials for great look, feel and durability, H&B makes golf clothes that’s meant to stand the test of time, both by way of style and durability.
H&B Polos: The Holland & Hunter
H&B’s polos are the epitome of what a golf shirt should be.
The Holland polo in aberdeen blue, for example, strikes a perfect balance between bold and classic.
This shirt’s soft performance fabric feels luxurious against the skin and its structured collar maintains its shape even after countless washes – something H&B is well-known for.
The fit is comfortably tailored for a clean look that works as well at business casual lunches as it does on the first tee.
The Hunter polo, with its micro-stripe design, exudes understated sophistication and I absolutely love the sage and white color scheme.
This piece pairs seamlessly with neutral-toned pants or shorts (like my Harwoods in gray, shown at the North Hills range in the image below), making it a versatile addition to any wardrobe.
The breathable, moisture-wicking fabric ensures all-day comfort, while its athletic yet relaxed fit accommodates a full range of motion without feeling loose or baggy.
Harwood Shorts (Gray)
H&B’s Harwood shorts (shown in the image above) are a masterclass in comfort and style.
The Harwood’s fabric is lightweight yet durable with a clean, modern cut that avoids the overly baggy or too-slim extremes seen in many golf shorts today.
Their muted gray color complements virtually any polo or sweater, making these a wardrobe essential.
Practical details like well-placed pockets and a slightly stretchy waistband ensure these shorts perform as beautifully as they look.
Baxter Corduroy Pants
If there’s one piece I’ve fallen head-over-heels for, it’s their Baxter corduroy pants.
I initially purchased one pair in fescue, and they’ve since become such a staple that I couldn’t resist adding another in navy.
These pants seamlessly blend sophistication with comfort, making them ideal for elevated occasions: clubhouse parties, work events and even classy dinners out with my wife and friends.
The fine wale corduroy fabric feels luxurious without being heavy, and the tailored fit gives them a polished yet modern look.
At $155/pair, I will I’m sure be purchasing more of these pants in the near future.
Garvey Performance Pants (Gray)
For days spent on the course, Holderness & Bourne’s Garvey Performance Pants are unrivaled.
Designed with golfers in mind, they feature a slightly tapered leg to keep fabric off wet grass – a small but thoughtful detail that enhances both style and durability. Their lightweight, athletic fabric is breathable and allows for unrestricted movement.
While I’ve only been able to get in one round with these so far, I cannot say enough how comfortable I was wearing them throughout our day at the Straits Course at Whistling Straits.
We had beautiful, warm weather for this round, but the wind went from calm at the outset to a 3- to 5-club behemoth on the back. My lower body maintained a perfect temperature throughout it: never overheated, never cold – just right.
These pants also transition effortlessly to post-round activities, again reflecting H&B’s knack for creating versatile apparel.
Needless to say, I will be wearing these plenty come Spring and while down in Florida at Streamsong Resort and Cabot Citrus Farms next week during the impending “polar vortex.”
H&B Pullovers: The Stowe & Sullivan
The Stowe pullover in navy is a wardrobe classic, with a timeless design that layers comfortably over polos or button-downs. Its soft, mid-weight material provides warmth without bulk, making it perfect for year-round wear.
This has not only become one of my favorite pieces to wear to the range (I got all my new H&B gear late in the season) but also around the house, out Christmas shopping and to dinners with friends.
I appreciate how H&B’s outerwear consistently balances form and function, and the Stowe exemplifies this perfectly. It’s versatile enough for everything from fall rounds to casual outings.
Similarly, the Sullivan Sweater in heathered navy is a standout piece with a refined texture that elevates its appearance.
Both of these pullovers showcase H&B’s mastery of understated elegance, proving that simple can be stunning.
I love the Sullivan sweater so much I wore it in our family photos!
The Ashby Jacket: Just the Right Warmth for Shoulder Season Golf
For early- to mid-Fall rounds of golf (as well as for out on the town), the Ashby Jacket is the perfect piece to finish any outfit.
Loose enough to work around my golf swing comfortably and without limitations, the Ashby jacket’s heathered fabric (I got mine in heathered navy) goes with anything, and is always slightly differently colored enough you can even wear it with any shade of blue.
This is a luxuriously soft feeling zipped jacket that I have come to absolutely love.
Ashby Vest (Heathered Navy)
The Ashby vest is another versatile piece that I’ve come to rely on, especially during cooler months.
The heathered gray fabric is understated yet stylish while its lightweight insulation adds warmth without sacrificing mobility.
This vest has become a layering staple for me (as well as heated apparel when it’s really cold), whether paired with a polo for a brisk morning round on the course or with a sweater for a Halloween hayride (first image).
Final Thoughts on Holderness & Bourne
Holderness & Bourne consistently delivers on all fronts with timeless style, exceptional comfort and enduring quality.
From their perfectly structured collars to their versatile layers, every piece feels meticulously crafted to meet the needs of discerning golf enthusiasts.
While their pricing is slightly above average, the value of these pieces is extraordinary as they are truly versatile and look great for any activity or setting.
Few brands manage to marry sophistication and performance as seamlessly as H&B, making them my go-to choice whenever I’m looking to invest in high-end golf apparel.
In my opinion, H&B is simply the best clothing brand in golf.
Whether you’re on the course, at the clubhouse or out on the town, their apparel ensures you’ll look and feel your very best.
