Whether you’ve noticed them or not Athalonz shoes are starting to make appearances on courses everywhere. You may have seen Kyle Berkshire wearing Athalonz during the World Long Drive contest, for example, or Bernhard Langer donning them while winning the U.S Senior Open at SentryWorld last summer.
Athalonz recently released their second shoe style, The Mana Mangrove, and I’d been excited to give them a try.

The Mana Mangrove Pros reinforce the “minimalism meets innovation” mantra Athalonz advertises. A great looking shoe made in the USA, the Mana is built with top-quality materials and an appealing design.

Fit
I found the Manas to be true to size, providing a snug yet comfortable feel. The Athalonz site cautions buyers these shoes run a half size large, though, so for those with narrow feet take that into consideration. For those with wide feet, like me, your normal size will fit great.
The cushioning built into the Manas is a big improvement, but I was initially worried my feet would overheat due to the amount and thickness. After testing I did not find this to be the case at all, and excellent ventilation kept them cool and dry even during the warmest rounds. The best part is these shoes will be comfortable right out of the box, and require no break in period at all.
A feature I immediately noticed is the separation of the cushion from the outer shell, which you can see in the picture below:

While this may look a little strange to your eyes there is no change in performance or feel when wearing them. The premium Italian leather that wraps the Manas stood up to my tests of mud, sand and rain with flying colors.
Performance
On-course performance is where the Manas truly shine as Athalonz again integrated their proprietary midsole technology to provide exceptional cushioning and support.
Similar to the first edition EnVe shoes, the Mangrove Pros focus on delivering power to your swing with their optimal athletic positioning. This optimal position will feel a little different for your first few rounds as you stand a bit higher and slightly forward.
It took me about 36 holes to feel “natural” in my Athalonz stance, but once you are set and comfortable you’ll notice the improvement these Manas can bring.
While I am no long drive champion I do “feel” more powerful when wearing these shoes. The tread pattern and positioning certainly feel different when your feet rotate and I can tell my body is more free to move.
The first round I played in the Manas my group members were asking me if I had been hitting the gym. While I was unhappy to respond “no” to that question I was excited the Manas were making an immediate impact on my game.

A noticeable enhancement over the EnVe model is the heel tread pattern that has been updated for the Mana line.
The grip is noticeably better on hilly and wet lies, especially when trying to get extra power. For spikeless shoes I find them to run a happy middle ground between a traditional spiked pair and some of the “slippery” spikeless options on the market today.

The Mana’s are currently offered in three color styles, shown below. The “Bluemaka Blue” pair I tested turned heads with many people liking the striking color contrast. The navy and black patterns offer great options for those looking for a more subtle look, however.

Power for the People
Athalonz has done it again with the Manas, adding another great shoe to their lineup. I continue to reach for my Athalonz shoes when I want extra power, comfort and durability on the course.
Don’t be afraid of the position adjustment these will cause… You will adapt. I continue to show them to everyone I play with and highly recommend Athalonz to all players looking for their next great pair of golf shoes.
