I took the Precision Pro ACE for a spin for ten rounds this fall. The verdict: The speaker is fantastic and something I’ve been needing for years for when I ride (usually on the weekends), but the GPS feature feels like an afterthought and is a “nice to have” feature.

Let’s get into the review.

Unboxing

While unboxing the package it has a premium feel to it. The cloth case it comes in is really nice for traveling and storage in my golf bag. It also includes a charger that I keep in the bag so I don’t misplace it with all of the other chargers I have. The weight is nice, and the aesthetics of the overall product are designed really well. The Precision Pro ACE comes with a remote, which I’ve found unnecessary and more of a hassle since it tends to fall off in my bag or whenever bumped. The latest version of the speaker, the ACE V2, has actually done away with the remote.

The Speaker

I’ve been looking for a great speaker like this for a long time. In the past I’ve used a portable speaker that I’d put it in the cart and was not ideal from a sound perspective. It also didn’t have the best battery life. The Precision Pro ACE has a very strong magnet that latches conveniently to the crossbars of the cart and claims the battery lasts up to 20 hours. I can confirm this long battery life as I literally used it for five consecutive rounds before it finally bugged out on the 17th hole of round five.

This is a huge plus for the product as I hate having to charge speakers after every round, which was the case for the speaker I used prior to the ACE.

The best part about the ACE speaker is the directional sound that “points” to those in the cart. The sound basically stays directionally in the cart, which can be huge if you’re playing with people who are averse to music on the golf course.

My playing partners have noticed this convenience when we’ve pulled off tees, and they can’t even hear my music while playing their shots. I love this because I’m always the one in our group worried about people getting upset about loud music on the course.

Sound quality on this speaker is also a big plus for me. It gets plenty loud, if needed, and actually has decent bass. The speaker is easy to adjust the volume up and down on the side of the device, and is overall one of the better speakers I’ve seen when it comes to directional sound, quality and the strength of the magnet.

GPS

Precision Pro ACE offers a GPS yardage feature through its app that projects onto the device. This one was a head scratcher for me as it’s never really worked quite right. The first course I played with this was The Bull at Pinehurst Farms in Sheboygan Falls. We went out with some buddies and it was one of those “fun” rounds. Some cash was being thrown around, beers were in the mix and nobody took it seriously at all. It was the perfect opportunity to show off this cool new device I’d just gotten.

The only problem was that the GPS didn’t work. First, I had issues with the app getting the golf course to provide yardages. When I finally did, the yardages did not show up on the Precision Pro screen. My cart partner and I spent about five holes reading the manual and watching YouTube videos trying to figure it out. We finally gave up and just used the speaker feature – like I’ve said, it’s awesome enough for that alone!

The second time I brought it out was on the Links and Woodlands courses at Lawsonia in Green Lake. This time I got the GPS to fire right up on the Precision Pro ACE, but was still having major issues that ended up costing me a couple shots. On the fifth hole, the GPS said I was 125 yards out but it seemed a bit closer. I decided to trust it and nuked the ball over the green…. Whoops. My buddy then gunned the pin with his rangefinder and got 108 yards. Huh.

As we were driving I noticed the GPS was frozen and found out the hard way that you need to refresh the app every three holes or so in order to get an accurate reading of the hole you’re on. Having to refresh was a major pain, and I did not want to have to set reminders for it, to be quite honest. Again, we ended up using the Precision Pro ACE for its best feature: The speaker.

Overall, if you’re looking for a high-quality speaker then I will absolutely recommend the Precision Pro ACE. The sound quality is excellent and the directional sound is fantastic, plus it has a great battery life and very strong magnet. This speaker is up there with some of the very best on the market today.

I agree with comment on high quality speaker for music. But my yardage screen on speaker continuously goes blank. Is there a resolution or fix to this? I turn on\off app and speaker nothing seems to work the yardage stays on and accurate on my phone screen.
