As I’ve chronicled significantly over the past several years, the city of Stevens Point in Central Wisconsin is one of my absolute favorite places to visit during the golf season.

With two incredibly different golf properties less than 10 minutes from one another, it’s a day that consists of out-of-this-world-good golf on one of the state and country’s best modern parkland courses, SentryWorld, as well as on the recently renovated, more rugged but equally as spectacular Stevens Point Country Club.

When I was asked to write an article for Grass Roots Magazine about SentryWorld and their world-class Superintendent Matt Smith’s journey leading up to and executing on the wildly successful 2023 US Senior Open won by Bernhard Langer, I jumped at it.

While Grass Roots is specific to the Wisconsin Chapter of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (WGCSA), I’m excited to share it with you all as I’m proud of how it turned out. The photographs (including some great US Senior Open shots by WiscoGolfAddict.com Contributing Writer Troy Giljohann), writing and overall content came together nicely to showcase one of the Wisconsin golf community’s most accomplished stars from one of its greatest properties.

My article starts on page 20 – enjoy!
