Since late 2023, I’ve had the opportunity to work with the Wisconsin Golf Course Superintendents Association (WGCSA) and Grass Roots Magazine on feature stories highlighting the people behind some of Wisconsin’s most interesting golf properties.
The series began with a feature on Matt Smith at SentryWorld and has since given me the chance to spend time with superintendents across the state, learning more about their careers, the projects they are leading and the countless decisions that shape the golf experiences players ultimately see.
Great golf does not happen by accident. These stories are meant to help golf enthusiasts better understand the expertise, problem-solving, leadership and daily work that go into maintaining and improving the courses we love.
This Spring 2026 feature focuses on Seth Brogren, Superintendent at Grand Geneva Resort & Spa, and the opening chapter of Wee Nip, the resort’s new 11-hole short course designed by Matt Dusenberry of Dusenberry Design.
Brogren served as grow-in superintendent for the project while continuing to oversee the Highlands Course, giving him a front-row seat to one of the most fascinating stages in a golf course’s life: the transition from construction to daily play.
