My home course, North Hills is a wonderful Golden Age parkland gem with some of the best greens and conditions in the state. Home of the country's longest-running 2-day charity golf tournament, The Vince Lombardi Golf Classic, it's a private club with a fun, golf-obsessed membership, great pace of play and [almost] perfect walkability. This is everyday golf at its best. If you're interested in joining, do it sooner rather than later to take advantage of their currently reduced $4K downstroke that will be increased to $8K come July 1, 2022.
When the Wisconsin State Golf Association (WSGA) announced its new marketing plan for 2021, golfers across the state of Wisconsin let out a collective gasp - one lucky guy or girl would get paid to play golf - a lot of golf. Golf enthusiasts' interests were piqued, and news of the internship became the top story on Golfweek.com as it was eventually shared over 5,000 times during the week of The Players Championship.
With rounds coming up tomorrow and Saturday morning with America's #1 Intern, Patrick Koenig, it got me thinking about what it would be like to play 75 different golf courses in 52 days. Then I started thinking about it on more of a macro level... The State of Golf in Wisconsin: How it got to where it is today, the current environment and what's to come.
I had the privilege of being invited up to North Shore Golf Club in Menasha, Wisconsin, last month, and was not disappointed! This 1930 Leonard Macomber track is one of the state's true hidden gems, featuring great golf and conditions, beautiful scenery alongside Lake Winnebago and a wonderful Golden Age course design.
