Bald Head Blues: At Home in the Carolina Sandhills

Leading up to our recent WiscoGolfAddict media trip to the Sandhills region of North Carolina, we had to reach out to our good friend Claude at Bald Head Blues. While he wasn’t willing to skip his honeymoon to join us for golf at Pinehurst, Mid Pines, Tobacco Road, Mid South or Talamore while we were in his area, he did send us some awesome new gear to try out during our trip.

If you’re still unfamiliar with Bald Head Blues, this is a very up-and-coming golf apparel brand that has some of the best, most comfortable polos and outerwear on the market today. Most of their clothing features well-executed, conventional styles with solid colors and light stripes, but they’ve got plenty of more “out there” designs, as well, and many brighter colors that resonate with the island lifestyle the brand embodies.

Playing golf in the Pinehurst area, this apparel could not have been more at home and fitting for the courses we wore it on – Bald Head Island (BHI) is just a few hours southeast of Moore County. A coastal community just south of Wilmington, BHI is famous for its laidback lifestyle and golf cart only transportation. It’s right up there with all the top areas I’d love to visit someday.

I love a more old-fashioned, conventional top for golf, and the Albatross polo with heather grey/white microstripes I tried out could not have been more attuned to my personal style.

Similarly, Troy’s, Brian’s and Sam’s shirts are all very classic in style – the kind of clothing they’ll be able to wear for years to come since they will never go out of style.

Bald Head Blues’ polos are well-made and soft to the touch. With a classic fit and excellent stretchability, I have been somewhat obsessed with them as a brand since trying my first BHB polo last season after Troy’s review Bald Head Blues: Clothing for Coasting (linked).

Similar to current juggernauts Greyson and Holderness & Bourne, I think Bald Head Blues is one of those companies that’s going to make a really big move in the apparel industry soon. Their clothes are just way too comfortable, versatile and well-styled not to.

Whether you’re playing golf in their backyard of North Carolina, here in the Midwest or elsewhere across our country, these are tops that will garner positive compliments from playing partners and even get the occasional “Not to be weird, but can I feel your shirt?” reaction. It’s not weird, by the way – they feel as good as they look.

It’s “Clothing for Coasting,” and we here at WiscoGolfAddict are huge fans. We’re sure you will be, too.
